Former RJD minister joins Janata Dal (United)

Upendra Prasad Verma, the RJD leader who served in the ministry of Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi for 15 long years on Tuesday joined the Janata Dal (United).

A respectable leader Verma held several important portfolios like commercial taxes and parliamentary affairs. He resigned from the RJD weeks before the recently concluded parliamentary elections. He said he joined JD(U) because of development taking place in Bihar during the Nitish Kumar regime. He said he felt neglected in RJD. He also recalled that he had requested Lalu to set up a rail factory in Jamalpur but his plea was ignored.

Mohammed Nasim Khan, a resident of Bihar’s Jamalpur

Two alleged illegal arms dealers were arrested in Bagbazar on Monday. The duo have been identified as Mohammed Nasim Khan, a resident of Bihar’s Jamalpur, and Talib Mondal of Bongaon. Police said the two were arrested while Nasim was handing over a consignment to Mondal.

Railway driver shot dead in Bihar

A group of robbers shot dead a train driver and looted cash and valuables worth Rs one lakh in Kolkata-Gorakhpur Poorvanchal Express at Lakhisarai district, police said today.
” Moti Lal Yadav, a Railways driver posted in Kolkata was shot dead by robbers near Kunder station in Jhajha-Kiul section last night when he resisted them from boarding the train. Yadav was on way to his native place in Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh,”superintendent of Railway police (Jamalpur) Vimal Kumar said.

About 20 robbers boarded the train at Jhajha railway station around 9 pm and robbed the passengers of two airconditioned coaches as soon as it left the platform, he said.

After looting the passengers, they pulled the alarm chain and disembarked near Kunder station, Kumar said.

An FIR has been registered by GRP, he said, adding that one of the suspects has been picked up for questioning.

All India Consumer Price Index Numbers for Industrial Workers on base 2001=100 for the month of March, 2009

1. All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers(CPI-IW) on base 2001=100 for the month of March, 2009 remained stationery at 148 (one hundred and fortyeight).
2. During March, 2009, the index recorded maximum increase of 4 points each in Warrangal and Munger-Jamalpur centres, 3 points in Bhilwara centre, 2 points in 7 centres and 1 point in 25 centres. The index recorded a decrease of 2 points each in Chennai, Jalpaiguri and Earnakulam centres, 1 point in 6 centres, while in the remaining 34 centres the index remained stationary.
3. The maximum increase of 4 points in Warrangal centre is mainly due to increase in the price of Rice, Milk (Buffalo), Vegetable & Fruit items etc., in Monger-Jamalpur centre this increase is due to Goat Meat, Fish Fresh, Milk (Buffalo), Vegetable & Fruit items, Tea (Readymade), Washing Soap etc..The increase of 3 points in Bhilwara centre is due to Wheate, Onion, Vegetable & Fruit items, Sugar etc. The devrease of 2 points in Earnakulam centre is on account of decease in the prices of Rice, Coconut Oil, Fish Fresh, Bus Fare etc., in Jalpaiguri centre due to Wheate Atta, Masur Dal, Mustard Oil etc. and in Chennai centre it is due to Rice, Poultry (Chicken), Onion, Tamarind, Flowers/Flower Garlands etc.
4. The Indices in respect of the six main centres are as follows:
