Criminals loot cash, valuabes from train passengers in Bihar

Armed criminals looted cash and valuables worth lakhs of rupees from passengers of 209 Up Howrah-Jamalpur passenger train on the Quil-Jamalpur section under Maldah division of Eastern Railway today.

Police said here the miscreants stormed into the train near Abhaypur station and began looting cash and valuables from the passengers at gunpoint. They injured some of the passengers when they offered resistance.

“The criminals managed to escape from the train after the incident,” police said, adding that raids were being carried out to trace them and recover the looted cash and valuables.

Fast, rallies continue in Bihar in support of Anna

Protests in support of Anna Hazare continued in Bihar for the 12th day today with students, lawyers, doctors and activists staging fast and holding rallies and demonstrations across the state.

Activists of All India Students Association (AISA), who had called state-wide bandh in support of Mr. Hazare’s movement against corruption tried to force closure of colleges and offices of the Patna University here.

Lawyers, students and activists of the Bihar unit of India Against Corruption (IAC) went on fast, brought out processions and rallies and held demonstrations at different places, including Bhagalpur, Araria, Munger, Motihari, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Hajipur, Samastipur and Patna, expressing solidarity with the movement launched by Mr. Hazare at the Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi.

State IAC convener Sanjay Kumar Dutta said supporters of Mr. Hazare with the help of Bihar Government Undertaking Association brought out a motorcycle rally in the state capital.
