Police intercepted a car on Friday night and arrested two members of an inter-state gang of firearms smugglers.
On a confidential information, Munger SP P Kanan alerted the Safiasarai police outpost to intercept the vehicle on Munger-Lakhisarai Road. The Safiasarai police outpost in-charge A Satyarthi rushed with a police posse and after a few hours, a luxury car was intercepted near Satkhajuria village near Dakra Nala. On search, the police recovered four country-made pistols, a revolver, a gun and 100 live cartridges from the vehicle. The police arrested two persons __ Rakesh Kumar of Ranchi and another person __ travelling in the car. Munger SP P Kanan said that Rakesh Kumar is a jailbird and has been imprisoned twice.
Rakesh Kumar confessed that firearms made in Munger were in great demand because of their quality and low price. The firearms fetch decent prices in other states particularly in Jharkhand, the police said adding Rakesh was being interrogated to ascertain where he usually bought the firearms.
Doctor assaulted: The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Munger Chapter, has submitted a charter of demands to the Range DIG, Munger DM and SP seeking stern action against the miscreants who assaulted a doctor on Friday night when he was on emergency duty at Munger Sadar Hospital. Dr Rakesh Sinha, the acting Civil Surgeon and chief medical officer, said that the IMA has demanded adequate security to the doctors and other hospital staff.
