A cloth merchant was gunned down at Sangrampur bazar on Monday night.
According to the relatives of the deceased, a few persons posing as customers approached Shambhu Tibrewal, the cloth merchant, at Sangrampur bazar around 10pm and requested him to open his shop as they needed some clothes urgently.
Tibrewal, in good faith, came out of his residence with keys. When he was about to open the lock of the shop, the miscreants pumped bullets from close range and the merchant fell down bleeding profusely.
Hearing the sound of firing, his family members and neighbours rushed towards the shop and found Tibrewal bleeding profusely and writhing in pain. He was rushed to the nearby state-managed hospital where the doctor declared him brought dead.
People of the market area came to know about the brutal murder of Tibrewal, a popular social person, and reached his residence to express their grief.
Sangrampur SHO Amarjit Jha said an FIR has been lodged against unknown persons and the body has been sent to Munger sadar hospital for autopsy. The cause of murder could not be ascertained. However, it appears to be a case of extortion which was not disclosed by the deceased. The area comes under the operational zone of the Maoists.
